One of the most profound yet simple ode to God that I have come across...
"God, if I worship thee for the fear of hell…burn me in hell,
And, if I worship thee in hope of paradise…exclude me from it,
But, if I worship thee for thy own sake…grudge me not your everlasting beauty"

umm... gitanjali? smacks of that. what wonderful poetry tagore wrote. he's my main man. no other collection impressed me as much. or maybe i haven't had the exposure to more options. suggestions?!

Not Gitanjali. I just discovered its written by the Sufi poetess Rabi'a.
